Addiction and substance abuse is a serious problem among teenagers. Teenagers begin abusing drugs because of peer pressure, or abuse in their life. Any type of drugs can be abused including over the counter medications. Since teenager’s brain is still growing any type of substance abuse can cause serious harm. The most abused drug is alcohol. Alcohol has a different effect the brain of teenagers different than that of adults. Children raised in a religious family, with religious friends are less tempted to use drugs. They have the support system in place to help them chose the right path in life. New drugs are always being created. There will always be a new drug that people will try and become addicted. Currently in Georgia there is a new drug called Flakka. The drug is readily available, inexpensive, and can be ordered by mail from China or India. Many teens struggle with substance abuse and addiction. Substance abuse and addiction includes the abuse of any type of drugs. This is includes both legal and illegal drugs. Even over the counter drugs such as Aleve or Advil can be abused by teenagers. There are two reasons that a teenager may turn to drugs. The first is peer pressure. A teenager may be following the advice of his peers. Everyone is influenced by the people that are around them. Greek Mythology The Muses Sister Goddesses, The Muses, were in charge of the world of Literature, Art, and Society. The Nine Daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne; they gave inspiration to artist, writers and other artistically gifted people. â€Å"The Nine Muses have been inspiring artists since the antiquity and there countless paintings, drawings, designs, poems and statues dedicated to them. At first only one Muse was spoken of but later poets mention three: Melete (Practice, Study), Mneme (Memory), and Aoede (Song). They were nymphs in Pieria, which is found in western Thrace, and their cult was brought to Mount Helicon in Boeotia by the Aloads. Eventually it became accepted that there were nine muses: Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, Melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania. The Muse Clio discovered history and guitar. History was named Clio in the ancient years, because it refers to â€Å"Kleos† the Greek word for the heroic acts. Clio was always represented with a clarion in the right arm and a book in the left hand. Muse Euterpe discovered several musical instruments, courses and dialectic. She was always depicted holding a flute, while many instruments were always around her. Muse Thalia was the protector of comedy; she discovered comedy, geometry, architectural science and agriculture. She was also protector of Symposiums. She was always depicted holding a theatrical – comedy mask. Opposite from Thalia, Muse Melpomene was the protector of Tragedy; she invented tragedy, rhetoric speech and Melos. She was depicted holding a tragedy mask and usually bearing a bat. Terpsichore was the protector of dance; she invented dances, the harp and education. She was called Terpsichore because she was enjoying and having fun with dancing ( â€Å"Terpo† in Greek refers to be amused). She was depicted wearing laurels on her head, holding a harp and dancing. The mountain, so filled with ecstasy, it rose to the heavens until Pegasus, under Poseidon’s command, kicked his hoof, stopping the mountain’s upward progress. A fountain of water gushed forth called the Fountain of Hippocrene. The fountain was sacred to the Muses and is believed to be the source of music and poetic inspiration. According to legend, the birth of both wine and art occurred when Pegasus’ hooves unleashed the sacred spring of the Muses. They control the destinies of both gods and men, as well as the unchanging laws of the cosmos. They are represented as three sisters: Urd (â€Å"fate†), Verdandi (â€Å"necessity†) and Skuld (â€Å"being†). They live at the base of the World Tree Yggdrasil in the realm of Asgard. Nothing lasts forever, and even the mighty Yggdrasil is subject to decay. The Norn’s try to stop this process, or at least slow it down, by pouring mud and water from the Well of Fate over its branches. This magical liquid stops the rotting process for the time being. The true capacity of Ursula’s strength was revealed during the reign of Arcadio after the departure of Aureliano.Arcadio presents himself with great power and tyranny through enrolling school children in his army or subjecting the entire town of Macondo to his oppressive whims. Because of this domineering rule, the citizens were put in fear and weakened. When Arcadio was preparing the execution of Don Mascote, Ursula domineeringly â€Å"let go with the first blow the lash† (106), causing Arcadio to run back home with his tail between his legs. Ursula treated him like a child, causing him to behave like one. Through her intelligence and strength she demeaned the arrogant and powerful leader into nothing more than a scared boy.The Buendia household did not last long after the deterioration of Ursula. Her great power over the household was passed from her to Fernanda. Unfortunately, Fernanda did not comprehend the responsibility required to manage the family, nor did she have the knowledge or know-how to keep the Buendias afloat. The best example of the family’s dependence on her is â€Å"as long as Ursula had full use of her faculties some of the old customs survived and the life of the family kept some quality of her impulsiveness†¦ no one but she determined the destiny of the family. (228) Due the the lack of the strong support in the Buendia family, the hole left by Ursula’s death caused the decline of the family and eventually all of Macondo. Ursula is an exemplary character, and excels under crisis and stress. She had the fortitude to tell her husband what was on her mind, the balance to support her family emotionally and financially while pursuing her own goals, and the courage to stand up to a tyrannical dictator. Ursula is easily the sanest and strongest character in the novel, and demonstrates this constantly.She provides stability to her family and all of Macondo. She demonstrates her logic when she notices trends in her family or the history of Macondo at first they behave very well, theyre obedient and prompt and they dont seem capable of killing a fly, but as soon as their beards appear they go to ruin. (152); or when she noted the repeat of events in Macondo, its as if time had turned around and we were back at the beginning. (193). She provides stability and reason to her family and all of Macondo.
